Winston-Salem Dash News Release

FREDERICK, Md. (April 12, 2015) - Brenden Webb's two-out, two-run homer propelled the Frederick Keys past Winston-Salem in Sunday's series finale at NYMEO Field at Harry Grove Stadium.

The Dash (1-3) enjoyed a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning when Frederick (3-1) nine-hole hitter Anthony Caronia led off the frame with a single. He advanced to third with two down, and Drew Dosch snapped a 1-for-13 skid with a game-tying double that barely snuck inside the bag at third.

Zach Isler, who surrendered the tying run, stranded a runner in scoring position in the ninth to force extra innings. Brad Goldberg then sizzled through the 10th and retired the first two in the 11th.

With a full count on Austin Wynns, Goldberg narrowly missed off the outside corner, and Wynns jogged to first. Webb sent the next pitch over the wall in left-center field for the game-winning bomb.

As a result, the Dash suffered a series loss to kick off the season even though they outscored the Keys 21-14 during the four games in Maryland. Winston-Salem plated 13 runs in the lid-lifter on Thursday, but the club only mustered eight runs in the final three games, during which Dash hitters were just 4-for-27 (.148) with men in scoring position.

Frederick struck with the game's first run thanks to Jeff Kemp's solo shot in the opening frame. However, the Dash bounced back quickly. In the third, Keenyn Walker singled, swiped second and third base and scored on a throwing error to level the contest.

Keon Barnum pushed the Dash in front with a solo shot in the fourth for Winston-Salem's first long ball of the campaign. Barnum went 6-for-16 (.375) with five RBIs and two runs scored during the weekend set.

Both teams plated a run in the sixth, with Cleuluis Rondon briefly increasing the Dash's lead to two with an RBI single. However, big league rehabber David Lough, who is working back from a hamstring injury, contributed with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half to whittle the deficit back to one.

Dash starter Tony Bucciferro posted a strong 2015 debut in his first start at Frederick since taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning against the Keys on July 20, 2014. Bucciferro worked five and two-thirds innings and gave up just two runs on five hits. He left the contest as the potential winning pitcher, though he settled for a no decision.

Bucciferro continued the great work by Winston-Salem starters on the season. The quartet of Bucciferro, James Dykstra, Jace Fry and Robinson Leyer have combined to post a 1.66 earned run average (four earned runs in 21.2 innings).

The Dash conclude their road trip with a three-game set at Potomac. Righty Matt Heidenreich makes his first start in the Carolina League since 2012 for Winston-Salem, while Potomac counters with left-hander Matthew Spann. First pitch of Monday's opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and pregame coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App.

The home slate begins this Thursday with a jam-packed seven-game homestand at BB&T Ballpark. Select seats are still available, and fans can purchase their tickets by calling (336) 714-2287 or visiting wsdash.com.
