Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Spokane Chiefs goaltender Dawson Weatherill has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 22, 2017.

Weatherill, a product of Red Deer, Alta., collected points in all three of his appearances this past week as the Chiefs continued to prove they're contenders in a strong U.S. Division.

The 6-foot-4 puckstopper opened the week with a 27-save performance on October 18 in a 2-1 win versus Moose Jaw, before following up with a 23-save performance in a 3-2 shootout loss versus Kamloops on October 20. Weatherill wrapped up the week with a solid 22-save effort in a 6-0 win at Edmonton on October 22. Through three contests, the rangy netminder finished with a 0.97 goals-against average and .960 save percentage.

Chiefs Acquire Forward Zach Fischer From Medicine Hat

Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs announced on October 19 that they have acquired 20-year-old Calgary Flames prospect Zach Fischer from the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for 18-year-old forward Hayden Ostir, 16-year-old defenseman prospect Eric Van Impe and a second round pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft. In a corresponding move, 20-year-old forward Rykr Cole has been released to waivers.

"We are very excited to add Zach to our team," said Chiefs' General Manager Scott Carter. "He is a proven scorer who has strength and an edge to his game that we like. He is tough to play against and is a good leader."

Fischer, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward from Lloydminster, Alta. scored 34 goals and 29 assists for 63 points in 62 games with the Tigers last season, racking up 145 PIM along the way. He added seven goals and three assists in 11 playoff games. In three games with the Tigers this season, he scored one goal and 13 PIM

Anderson-Dolan Named To Team WHL For Canada-Russia Series

Six-game series set to run November 6 -16

Spokane Chiefs forward Jaret Anderson-Dolan has been named to Team WHL for the upcoming 2017 CIBC Canada-Russia Series, as announced by the WHL, CHL and Hockey Canada on October 17.

Anderson-Dolan, a 1999-born forward from Calgary, Alberta, was selected in the second round (41st overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings after scoring 39 goals and 37 assists for the Chiefs last season. Through eight games played in the current 2017-18 season, Anderson-Dolan has picked up three goals and seven assists for 10 points.

Team WHL will face Team Russia in Game 1 of the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series in Moose Jaw, Sask., on Monday, November 6, before continuing on to Swift Current, Sask., for Game 2 on Tuesday, November 7. The Ontario Hockey League will host Games 3 and 4, while the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will welcome the festivities surrounding Games 5 and 6.
