Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club is excited to announce that for a third straight season the hockey club has partnered with Lethbridge Taber KidSport Society to once again raise funds for the charity. The KidSport Challenge was originally created by former Hurricanes Captain Tyler Wong who, along with two teammates, vowed to donate $5.00 for every goal they scored during the regular season. In its first two seasons, Wong along with Carter Folk, Ryley Lindgren, Giorgio Estephan and Jordy Bellerive helped raise over $19,000 for the charity.
This season, the Hurricanes have upped the ante as a total of 22 players will donate to the KidSport Challenge. This season Giorgio Estephan and Jordy Bellerive are joined by Calen Addison, Brennan Riddle, Tate Olson, Ty Prefontaine, Shawn Harke, Zach Cox, Josh Tarzwell, Tanner Nagel, Ryan Bowen, Jake Elmer, Ryan Vandervlis, Brendan Stafford, Jadon Joseph, Dylan Cozens, Zane Franklin, Jayden Davis, Brady Pouteau and Koletrane Wilson as they will all donate $5.00 for each goal they score during the 2017-2018 regular season.
Hurricanes goaltender Reece Klassen has vowed to donate 10 cents per save this season while Stuart Skinner has also vowed to donate 74 cents for every save he makes during the regular season. Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt has also joined the cause and has elected to donate $100 for every win the team posts this season. "What really jumps out at me is what a great group of kids we have on our hockey club. I think the guys understand how fortunate they are to be able to play at an elite level of hockey and all the help they had moving on throughout their career. They want to give back in whichever way they can and the KidSport Challenge is one way they can do it,"Â said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. "I think it stems from leadership we've had from the past. There's no doubt that Tyler Wong's influence on our group carries on even after he's gone and it says a lot about the leadership we had on our hockey club over the last couple of years and it's carrying on to this season."
Lethbridge Taber KidSport Society helps fund children to participate in the sport of their choice. Since 1995, the Lethbridge Taber KidSport Society has assisted over 4,300 kids to partake in sport with grants totaling over $670,000 while KidSport Chapters in Alberta have helped fund 92,856 kids in the amount of over 19-million dollars. So far in 2017 alone, the Lethbridge Taber KidSport Society has helped fund 393 children with over $65,000 in grants.
