WHEELING, WV - The Pittsburgh Penguins General Manager Craig Patrick announced today that the Penguins have re-assigned goaltender Andy Chiodo from Wheeling to (AHL) Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Chiodo was summoned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after Pittsburgh recalled goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
Additionally, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has recalled left wing Arpad Mihaly from loan to Wheeling.
Chiodo, 22, began the season with Wheeling before being assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 9. He dressed as the backup in the Penguins victories against the Hershey Bears on October 9 and the Norfolk Admirals on October 14.
With the Nailers this season, Chiodo has a 5-1-1 record (five wins, one loss, one shootout win) with a 3.45 goals against average and .868 save percentage in six games.
In parts of three seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Chiodo has appeared in 66 games, posting a 27-29-4 record with six shutouts and a 2.61 goals against average. He has also appeared in eight games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, going 3-4-1 with a 3.46 goals against average, and 24 games with the Nailers, going 9-12-2 with one shutout and a 2.49 goals against average.
Chiodo was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the seventh round (199th overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft.
Mihaly, 25, started the season with the Penguins, going scoreless and even with four penalty minutes in one game before being loaned to Wheeling on Oct. 18. He currently ranks third on the Nailers with 10 points (2+8) and tied for first with a plus-7 rating. He has tallied 85 points (29+56) and 94 penalty minutes in parts of five seasons with Wheeling
Miahly has played parts of three American Hockey League seasons with the Binghamton Senators, Philadelphia Phantoms and Penguins, recording 23 points (11+12) and 28 penalty minutes in 102 games. He signed with the Penguins as a free agent on Oct. 3.
Wheeling travels to Toledo tomorrow night to take on the Storm at 7:35pm. The Nailers return home on Sunday, November 13th for a 3pm face off against Johnstown. Sunday's game is "Sunday Family Fun Day", with tickets for ages 17 and under only $6. It is also "Skate with the Nailers" after the game for all who bring there own gloves and skates.
