Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings announced several roster moves today in preparation for their first game ever in the brand new Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre at 7:00pm tonight, against the Stockton Thunder.
The Salmon Kings placed on waivers Forward Derek Allan. Allan, an ECHL rookie, played six games for Victoria scoring one goal.
The Salmon Kings announce the trade of Defenseman Aaron MacInnis to the Stockton Thunder. The Salmon Kings receive in the trade a player to be named at a later date. MacInnis finishes with one goal and two assists for three points in six games with the Salmon Kings.
Joining Victoria after a short stay with the San Diego Gulls is Jade Galbraith. The 5'11" 200lbs. forward from Hinton, AB played seven games with the Gulls this season recording four assists. 23-year-old Galbraith, has played 214 games in three years in the ECHL and has scored 65 goals and 121 assists for 186 points.
Galbraith's most productive season as a pro, came in the 2002-03 season with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies when he scored 27 goals, 47 assists for 74 points and hoisted the Kelly Cup with Salmon Kings Vice-President of Hockey Operations, Dan Belisle.
Also signed to the Salmon Kings roster this morning is Forward Mike Josephson. Josephson returns to the Salmon Kings for his second straight season. The 6'0" 200lbs. native of Victoria played in 45 games recording 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points last year. Born in Merritt, BC, 29-year-old Josephson was drafted in the eighth round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft (196th overall) by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Josephson was originally signed by the Salmon Kings on July 7, 2005 but was injured during the off-season and was never added to the Salmon Kings opening day roster.
Forwards Steve Roberts (30-day) and Jan Sochor (7-day) remain on the Injured Reserve and are joined by Goaltender BJ Boxma (7-day) who was injured in the first game of the season in Fresno. On the bench for the Salmon Kings to replace Boxma is the Salmon Kings emergency third netminder Blaine Caldwell.
Forward Lanny Gare has been given a clean bill of health and is ready to return to the line-up tonight against the Thunder.
The Salmon Kings play their first home game in downtown Victoria at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The Salmon Kings encourage all sporting fans in Victoria to join the hockey club in a nostalgic tribute to the cities rich hockey history before 60 minutes of exciting, high impact, high speed family entertainment.
