San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls announced Thursday that Cody McLeod has been re-assigned by the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters. The rookie winger was sent back to Lowell late last month so he could get his immigration paperwork completed.
The 21-year-old McLeod is expected to make his Gulls debut Saturday in Fresno. He will wear jersey No. 8.
McLeod comes back to San Diego after spending training camp with both Lowell and the AHL's Providence Bruins. The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pounder from Binscarth, Manitoba made his professional debut last season with the United Hockey League's Adirondack Frostbite, appearing in one regular season and five playoff games.
Prior to turning pro, McLeod spent four years playing juniors with the Portland Winter Hawks in the Western Hockey League. During his four-year tenure with Portland, he tallied 137 points (69g, 68a) and 661 penalty minutes in 257 games. McLeod led Portland last season with 195 penalty minutes and ranked second on the club with 60 points (tied for first with 31 goals).
The Gulls return to action Saturday in Fresno, with game-time set for 7 p.m. from Save Mart Center. San Diego hosts the Phoenix Roadrunners Sunday at 5:05 p.m. It will be the first Kids Night and "Skate with the Gulls" will immediately follow the game. All games can be heard on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play.
