Milwaukee Wave News Release
KANSAS CITY (Thursday, March 31, 2005) â At Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, Milwaukee was unable to complete a season sweep over the Comets, falling to 20-12 overall. The Kansas City Comets were able to surge ahead of the Wave early in the first and late in the fourth to secure the team's first win over Milwaukee during the 2004-05 regular season.
Late in first quarter, the Kansas City Comets got on the board with an unassisted goal from midfielder Casey Stevens at 9:56. Just a few minutes later, the Comets took another shot past Milwaukee's goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. Kansas City's Jamar Beasley found James Koehler (12:12) for a low shot past the post for the power-play goal, after the Wave's Joe Hammes received a penalty at 11:21 for tripping.
The Comets continued to score in the beginning of the second quarter with a quick goal (0:31) from Justin Evans, off the pass from Ibrahim Kante. Five minutes later, Evans received a penalty for pushing. Milwaukee capitalized on the power-play as Giuliano Oliviero found Ricardinho for a shot in the top, near corner at 7:11 for the Wave's first goal of the evening past Kansas City's keeper, Chris Damico.
Making a quick come-back in the top of the third, Milwaukee's Todd Dusosky passed it off to Matt Schmidt for the goal just inside the far post at 0:49. Nearly one minute later (1:37), Marcelo Fontana blasted the ball into the back of the net off the assist from captain Michael King. Late in the third, Oliviero got a penalty for tripping, placing the Comets on the power-play going into the fourth and final period of the match.
Kansas City started the fourth period on the man-advantage, as Koehler converted the Comets' second power-play goal off another assist from Beasley at 0:57. After battling back-and-forth for nearly the entire quarter, Milwaukee inserted Schmidt as the sixth attacker with less than four minutes of play remaining. Evans took advantage of the open net at 13:32, scoring the Comets' fifth goal of the night. Soon after Milwaukee reinstated Vorberg between the posts, Beasley sent a low bouncer past the Wave's keeper for another goal to secure Kansas City's first win over the Milwaukee Wave this season.
After another game on the road (4/2 vs. Cleveland Force), the Wave returns home on April 8 at 7 p.m. to take on the Philadelphia KiXX.
