Chicago Storm Signs GK Vojislav "Scoop" Stanisic to 15-Day Contract

Chicago (Thursday, March 31, 2005) â The Chicago Storm of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that they have signed goalkeeper Vojislav "Scoop" Stanisic to a 15-day contract and have places goalkeeper Jeff Richey on the 15-day injured reserve list. Per league policy, details of the contract were not disclosed. "Scoop" will join the Storm in Kansas City for the team's upcoming match with the Comets on Saturday, April 2 at 7:35 p.m. CT. The game can be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net.
"It is unfortunate that Jeff was injured in our last game against Baltimore," said Storm Head Coach and GM Frank Klopas. "He was having a good game and then injured his hamstring making a great kick save. Fortunately, we are able to add Scoop to our team. He is a proven goalkeeper and will be useful in being there if something happens with Danny (Waltman)."
Richey suffered a Grade Two left hamstring strain on Saturday, March 26 in a win over the Baltimore Blast. At the 5:42 mark of the second quarter, Richey extended his left leg to block a shot. The shot hit his foot and jolted the muscle in his leg. The Ft. Wayne, Indiana native fell to the ground in pain and had to be carried off the field. Waltman stepped in to backstop the Storm to a 5-3 win in relief.
Stanisic, 42, last played professionally during the 2000-01 National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) season for the Detroit Rockers. The Belgrade, Yugoslavia native began his professional career during the 1984-85 campaign with the New York Cosmos and moved on to the Chicago Sting for two seasons (1986-88). He also featured for the Hershey Impact, Baltimore Blast, Illinois Thunder, Kansas City Attack and Harrisburg Heat in a career that spanned 17 years. He will return to the field after playing in 306 games with a 8.85 goals against average and 149 wins and 131 losses. Stanisic becomes the first former Sting player to sign a contract to play for the Storm.
Stanisic will wear his customary jersey number 00.
