SUMMER SOCCER SHOWCASE

Catch Ian Bennett, Chris Brisson and other Chicago Storm stars at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15 in a special exhibition match at the Sears Centre against the Ultimate Soccer League All-Stars.

It's just $10 for the best available seats in the house, so stop on out for the afternoon, get out of the heat and cheer on your favorite Storm players in the Showcase.

The Ultimate Soccer League is comprised of top players in the Chicagoland area and plays at Lake County Sports Center, Grand Sports Arena, Victory Sports Complex and the East Side Soccer Dome.

ON THE BEACH

Storm goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin and defender Will Kletzien (left) played last weekend in the Men's Pro Division of the 2009 Southern California Beach Soccer Championships in Oceanside.

Elfvin, a member of the U.S. national team, helped lead Team Pugg to the finals, where they lost to the Senegal National Team 4-3. He helped Kletzien get an opportunity at the tournament.

"Coach wanted to see some different players, and I suggested he take a look at Will," Elfvin said.

Kletzien, in his first time on the beach, was placed on SoCal Beach FC with a handful of national team players and a mix of other guys. Though they didn't win a game, he loved the experience and compared it to the transition from outdoor to indoor soccer.

"I had an easier time adjusting to the beach, I think, than I did adjusting to indoor," Kletzien said.

Elfvin was all set to join the national team in the CONCACAF Championships in late April, but swine flu fears forced postponement of the tournament. No new date has been set.

Don't forget the Beach Soccer Experience matches with Milwaukee on June 13 (Montrose Beach) and June 20 (Milwaukee's Bradford Beach).

ON THE GRASS

Dan Antoniuk and Stephen Armstrong of the Storm have helped the Charleston Battery off to an undefeated start (2-0-4) in United Soccer League's First Division.

Antoniuk (above) scored in a 2-1 win over Carolina and is tied for the team lead with 3 points. Armstrong has appeared in three games for the Battery, who are fourth in the 11-team league with 10 points
