Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI (November 16, 2005) -Milwaukee Wave Chief Operating Officer, Mike Lafferty, announced today that the Milwaukee Wave's opponent in the December 21 school day exhibition game will be the Premier Arena Soccer League's (PASL) All-Stars.
The PASL is in its seventh year and features 50 teams in six regions throughout the U.S. and Canada. With a deep talent pool, the PASL All-Star Team will feature many up-and-coming indoor soccer players as well as a few veterans who have been a part of the MISL. Fans can expect fast paced action showcasing the skills of premier indoor soccer players from around the globe.
The game is being held at 10:35 as part of a school day promotion to combine the students' interests in soccer and education. CNI Newspapers will be the Wave's curriculum partner in this endeavor. Participating schools will be visited by Wave players in the month before the game where players will discuss the values of education and how it applies to their life and sports. The Wave and CNI Newspapers will also have informational booths set up at the U.S. Cellular Arena to promote educational values to the students.
"We've had tremendous support from schools for this game," Mike Lafferty said. "With just a month to go before the game, we're getting close to filling the U.S. Cellular Arena. This will be a great opportunity for students to combine their love of soccer with an educational experience."
The Milwaukee Wave was established in 1984 as one of six charter members of the American Indoor Soccer Association (AISA). In 2001, the Wave transitioned to being a successful member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Through the guidance of head coach Keith Tozer, the winningest coach in Wave and North American indoor soccer history, the Wave has won four league titles (1997-98, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2004-05), seven regular season championships, and has made seven championship series appearances. The Wave plays at home in the US Cellular Arena located in downtown Milwaukee.
