Wave Ready for Eastern Conference Showdown with Rival Baltimore Blast Friday Night
March 14, 2018 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
Your Six-Time Champion Milwaukee Wave travel east to battle the Nine-Time Champion Baltimore Blast in the Major Arena Soccer League Eastern Conference Final Friday night from SECU Arena on the Towson University campus in Towson, Maryland.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:35pm CDT.
"We feel good about Friday's game and are prepared," said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "But we all know it's going to be 60 minutes of intensity on their smaller field. We're going to have to be laser focused and mentally quick, while making good decisions. We're ready for it."
Both the Wave and Blast ended the MASL Regular Season with a record of 17 wins and 5 losses and between the three meetings they had between each other this season, the Blast took the advantage two games to one.
2/10 GAME RECAP: MKE 5, BAL 6. Final.
2/17 GAME RECAP: MKE 5, BAL 1. Final.
2/23 GAME RECAP: MKE 6, BAL 9. Final.
Last season, the Blast knocked the Wave out of the then 3-game MASL Eastern Conference Final Series, two games to one.
3/18/17 GAME 1 RECAP: MKE 7, BAL 8. Final/OT - Royal Farms Arena.
3/21/17 GAME 2 RECAP: MKE 8, BAL 4. Final. - UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
3/21/17 MINI-GAME 3 RECAP: MKE1, BAL 2. Final - UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
"We're playing the two-time defending champions and they're the favorites," said Oliviero. "I'm sure they (Baltimore) are at home expecting to win but we have to go in there, follow our game plan and put a complete 60 minutes on both sides of the ball. We have developed a great chemistry, culture and work ethic with our team over the last two seasons and I think we are capable of taking that next step."
Midfielder #26 - Ian Bennett on the smaller field...
"The game is so much faster on that smaller field. Everything happens quick, can get chaotic in a second but we're paying attention to the little details. Obviously everyone wants to have a great game but we're the underdog and are just going to have to go in and do what we do."
Midfeilder #77 - Marcio Leite on Blast team...
"Baltimore is a very talented team and if we expect to beat them our concentration level is going to have to be very high because every little mistake is a goal scoring opportunity for them. We want to be sure that they can't produce anything against our defense otherwise it's going to be a long night for us."
