Coach Keith Tozer: Now in his 12th season as Head Coach of the Wave (his 20th overall as a professional head coach) Keith Tozer is the winningest coach in the 25-year history of North American indoor soccer. Tozer, who became the first and only coach to reach the 500 win plateau on 4/12/02, currently sports a combined regular and post-season record of 546-346 (.612), including a 327-177 mark (.649) as coach of the Wave. The 46-year old Grosse Pointe, MI native, who is also Milwaukee's Vice President â Soccer Operations overseeing both the Wave indoor and Wave United outdoor teams, began his coaching career as a player-coach with the Louisville Thunder in 1984 following a six-year career in the original MISL. He has led Milwaukee to three league titles and five championship series appearances in the last six seasons. He is also a five-time NPSL / MISL Coach of the Year award winner (1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2003.)
Wave Notes: *The Wave is now 109-36 (.752) in its last 145 regular and post-season outings.
*The Wave's 13-4 record equals Milwaukee's best 17-game start in the club's 20-year history. The Wave was also 13-4 to begin the 1995-96 (30-10) and 2001-02 (34-10) seasons.
*The 12/31 contest v. Monterrey was Coach Keith Tozer's 500th game as coach of the Wave. Now in his 12th season with Milwaukee, Tozer is just the third coach in North American indoor soccer history to guide one team for as many games. Only Kenny Cooper (751 games with Baltimore) and Ron Newman (701 games with San Diego) have coached more games with a single franchise.
*Assistant Coach Steve Morris made his professional head coaching debut on 12/6 @ Bal. He stepped in for Keith Tozer, who was coaching the U.S. Futsal Team in Anaheim, CA.
*Milwaukee's 9-8 (OT) loss on 12/6 @ Bal broke a five-game overtime winning streak for the Wave dating back to the 2001-02 campaign. Milwaukee was 4-0 in extra-session games last year and 1-1 the year before.
*The Wave's 6-5 (OT) win over SD on 1/2 @ Mil improved the Wave's overtime record to 1-1 this season and 25-30 all-time, including 18-10 at home.
*The 15 goals on 11/14 v. KC is the fourth highest total in team history. The Wave team record for most goals in a contest is 18, set on 12/6/98 v. Cle.
*Troy Dusosky and Marcelo Fontana each scored a goal to record the 150th point of their respective careers in Milwaukee's 6-2 win over Monterrey on 12/31 @ Mil.
*The Wave's "Twin Tandem" - Todd and Troy Dusosky - has now combined for 283 goals (Todd 196 + Troy 87) and 300 assists (Todd 233 + Troy 67) for 583 points (Todd 429 + Troy 154), good for ninth on the MISL's all-time brothers scoring list. The Marinaros (Hector 1902 + Rob 8 = 1910) are the highest scoring brother pair followed by the Pikuzinskis (Rudy 931 + Randy 725 1656). The Dusoskys (Todd 380 + Troy 65 = 445) are also the highest scoring brother pair in Wave history ahead of the White brothers (Pat 163 + Erik 9 = 172).
*Joe Reiniger has tallied at least one point in 10-of-16 games so far this season and 341-of-360 career NPSL / MISL regular season contests. Reiniger still holds the league's second longest scoring streak at 105 straight games (ended on 3/17/02).
*Greg Howes current indoor consecutive games played streak is currently 142 straight (regular season and playoffs). It's the Wave's longest active streak, and the third longest streak in team history following Michael King (161) and current Wave Assistant Coach Steve Morris (155). Howes, who currently leads the MISL with 40 points (24 goals, 16 assists) was shut-out for the only time this season on 1/2 v. SD.
*Goalkeeper Dan Green equaled his career-best 60 minute performance by allowing just one goal on 11/7 v. Mon. Green had previously allowed just one goal on 12/7/01 @ Bal. The Waukesha, WI native has won six-of-his-last-seven decision and currently tops the league with a 4.21 GAA.
*Goalkeeper Nick Vorberg has not made any appearances since suffering an ankle injury in practice last month. The 28-year old netminder, who was acquired by the Wave in the off-season trade that sent Victor Nogueira to San Diego, is off to a fine start in Milwaukee with a 5-2 record to go along with a 4.68 GAA.
Forward / midfielder Giuliano Oliviero missed his first game of the season on 1/16 @ KC (injured calf) to break his 82 consecutive games played streak which began with Cleveland during the 2001-02 season.
Last Week's Recap:
1/16 @ Kansas City Comets 8, Wave 6 Attendance â 4,571
The Kansas City Comets rallied three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to defeat the Wave 8-6 Friday night (1/16) before 4,571 fans at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, MO. Anthony Maher's second goal of the match at 1:41 of the period proved to be the game-winner as the Comets topped the Wave for the first time in three meetings this season.
Milwaukee tallied first on a goal by Kevin Burk at 5:58 of the first quarter. After Kansas City's Jamar Beasley answered with his first of the night at 6:54, the Wave forged ahead 3-1 on goals by Todd Dusosky (11:48) and Greg Howes (12:37). The Comets responded in the second quarter with goals by Beasley (5:38) and Vlatko Andonovksi (6:30), the latter score coming on a power play after a tripping penalty to the Wave's Marcelo Fontana. However, the Wave went back on top by two (5-3) before the end of the half on goals by Howes (7:56) and Michael King (13:39).
The Comets quickly evened the score in the third quarter on goals by Maher (3:11) and Matt Tanzini (5:24) before King's power play tally at 12:24 put Milwaukee up 6-5 heading into the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, Kansas City took advantage of a tripping penalty against the Wave's Lovelace Ackah to tie it up again (6-6) on Dino Delevski's power play goal at 1:24 of the final period. Maher followed with another goal just 17 seconds later to make it 7-6 before Jeff Davis' power play marker at 5:40 gave the Comets a two-goal cushion. Davis' goal would turn out to be the final score of the night despite a 92-second two-man advantage for Milwaukee late in the contest.
Kansas City goalkeeper D.J. Horvath stopped 16-of-22 shots faced to record the victory while Wave âkeeper Dan Green had 15 saves in a losing effort. The loss broke a six-game winning streak for both Green and the Wave.
