
Pappas Receives League Honor for Third Time this Season

Philadelphia, PA, January 19, 2004 â The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX Goalkeeper Peter Pappas has been named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week for the seven-day period ending January 18. Pappas was also named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week for consecutive weeks to open the 2003-04 campaign (seven-day periods ending October 5 and October 12) and the Goalkeeper of the Month for his play throughout the month of October.
The 31-year old Toronto, Ontario native posted a perfect performance (16 saves on 16 chances) versus the San Diego Sockers to earn a 5-0 shutout victory at the Wachovia Spectrum on January 17. The shutout was the first of the season in the MISL and the first in professional indoor soccer since Pappas' last shutout performance versus the Florida Thundercats on April 2, 1999. The Philadelphia University graduate also recorded a combined shutout win over Florida on March 27, 1999; Pappas played the first 48:27 of the game and teammate Keith Englehardt stepped in for the final 11:13.
With the victory over San Diego, Pappas is currently 10-5 with a 4.46 goals against average this season. He is ranked second in the MISL in save percentage (.759), tied for third in wins and goals against average and fourth in minutes (900) and saves (211).
The eight-year veteran has been named to six all-star squads, four of which he was selected to start, and five all-league teams in his career. Last season, Pappas received Player-of-the-Week honors three times (seven-day periods ending November 3, February 9 and March 23) and Player-of-the-Month honors for his play in the month of November. Overall in his career, the Philadelphia University graduate has received Player-of-the Week honors 14 times, as well as seven Player-of-the-Month honors.
Pappas and the KiXX conclude their three-game homestand by welcoming the Monterrey Fury to the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday, January 24. The club has partnered with the nationally acclaimed architecture, engineering, interior design, and planning firm EwingCole to present SocceRoo, the team's mascot, as the bobblehead giveaway for the 2003-04 campaign. The doll will be distributed to the first 3,000 fans, 14 and under, and all season ticket holders that enter the gates on January 24. Game-time is slated for 7:05 pm ET with the doors scheduled to open at 6:00 pm ET.
