Wave defeats Blast, 5-3, in battle of MISL's top two teams

(Milwaukee, WI) Forwards Greg Howes and Todd Dusosky each scored a pair of goals while Wave goalkeeper Dan Green anchored a solid Milwaukee defense with 12 saves as the Wave defeated the Baltimore Blast 5-3 in a battle of the Major Indoor Soccer League's top two clubs Sunday (3/14) at U.S. Cellular Arena. A season-high crowd of 8,055 saw Milwaukee improve its 2003-04 regular season record to 22-8 while the Blast fell to 22-9.

Todd Dusosky opened the scoring at 12:28 of the first quarter when he tapped in a re-start pass from Joe Reiniger. Baltimore came back to grab the lead in the second quarter on power play goals by Carlos Farias (5:46) and Giuliano Celenza (12:59). The Wave evened the score at 2-2 when Troy Dusosky converted at the goalmouth on a pass from Todd at 14:47.

Milwaukee regained the lead (3-2) at 11:42 of the third quarter when Howes, the league's leading scorer was able to work his way through Baltimore goalkeeper Scott Hileman to score his 49th of the season. Baltimore's Denison Cabral knotted the score again (3-3) when he converted at 12:18 on a shoot-out following a tripping penalty to Wave' Pat White.

Howes scored on a power play at 0:27 of the fourth quarter to put Milwaukee ahead 4-3. After holding off a concerted Baltimore effort to tie it up, the Wave sealed the victory on Todd Dusosky's second goal of the contest which came against sixth attacker Lee Tschantret, who had come on for Hileman with 2:14 remaining.

The Wave, which has already clinched the Central Division title, will get ready to face the Western Division leading

Dallas Sidekicks in back-to-back meetings this upcoming weekend. The two teams meet Saturday (3/20, 6:05 PM) at U.S. Cellular Arena before squaring off the following night (Sunday, 3/21, 6:05 PM) at Reunion Arena in Dallas, TX.
