KiXX Fall in Monterrey, 7-4

Monterrey, Mexico, March 14, 2004 – The Philadelphia KiXX (17-13) were defeated by the Monterrey Fury (8-19) by a score of 7-4 tonight in the team's final regular-season trip to the Monterrey Arena. David Pereyra registered the game winner for the Fury at 10:06 of the fourth quarter. Peter Pappas (15-8) too the loss for the KiXX in his first action since February 22, while Hector Mireles improved to 8-14 with the win for Monterrey.

Marco Coria opened the scoring at 3:12 of the first quarter to provide the Fury with an early 1-0 advantage, but player/coach Don D'Ambra connected with Goran Vasic at 6:01 to knot the score at 1-1. Monterrey forward Victor Quiroz concluded the opening period with an unassisted notch at 12:14, as the Fury took a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.

Pereyra extended the Monterrey lead to two, 3-1, with a strike at 12:05 of the second stanza, but KiXX defender Pat Morris responded with a tally of his own just 22 seconds (12:27) later to pull the club within one, 3-2. D'Ambra added the assist on the play.

Renato Pereira recorded a power-play goal on a feed from Coria at 8:15 of the third quarter, courtesy of a two-minute infraction on the KiXX for having too many men on the field. The Fury held the 4-2 lead entering the final quarter of play.

Philadelphia rattled off two unanswered goals in the opening minutes of the fourth period to knot the score even, 4-4; Morris connected first on a dish from Vasic at 2:27, before Vasic scored a tally of his own on an assist from Pappas at 6:22. Pereyra regained the one-point Fury advantage, 5-4, with his second goal of the contest at 10:06 of the stanza. Monterrey sealed the victory with a pair of unanswered goals to earn a 7-4 victory; Walter Gomez registered a score from Coria at 12:21, followed by a Coria goal from Marco Lopez at 13:21 with Vasic serving as sixth attacker for Philadelphia.

Notes: KiXX player/coach Don D'Ambra and defender Pat Morris have now accounted for 12-of-the-club's 21 goals (58 percent), in the team's last four contests; the team is 1-3 in that span.
