Watertown's Special Teams Overcome 2-goal Deficit to Defeat Port Huron
December 22, 2018 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Watertown Wolves News Release
The Prowlers drop a heartbreaker in the third period on the power play. Former Prowler Chris Leveille scored the game winning goal late in the third period widening the gap to 12 points on the Prowlers in the standings, with a final score of 4-3.
Prowlers got on the scoreboard first with a nifty move from Matias Kasek that ended up sniping over Cody Porter's shoulder for a 1-0 lead. With less than two minutes left, Watertown would get even with a goal scored from Sam Williams. First period ended tied at 1 goal each.
The middle frame is where most of the scoring happened. Port Huron would come out firing 18 seconds into the 2nd period. Matt Graham put the Prowlers ahead by one followed by a Dalton Jay goal scored on a Paul Arnott faceoff win putting Port Huron up two goals with 10 minutes to go.
Jay's goal would be quickly answered by the 2016 FHL's leading scorer Tyler Gjurich, followed up by a power play goal scored by Chris Leveille with 20 seconds left to go in the 2nd period. That's how it would stay through two periods, tied at 3.
Third period would remain scoreless until a short-handed breakaway goal by Chris Leveille sealed the deal for Watertown with 2:40 left on the clock. The Prowlers power play failed all night going 0-6. Cody Porter made 53 saves on 56 Prowler shots. Tyler Gjurich and Chris Leveille netted three points each while Gavin Yates netted 2 assists.
These two teams will square off again tomorrow at McMorran Arena in Port Huron, with a 7pm puck drop tomorrow.
