The Hawks were up 5-on-3 when Blake Kessel widened the gap to four goals with a wrist shot just 50 seconds into the third period.
The Riders got on the scoreboard for the first time while on the power play themselves when Mike Seidel tipped in a Pat Cannone with 2:49 gone in the third.
The Hawks made it 5-1 at 5:33 with another goal on the man advantage as Ryan Cramer deposited a rebound from the side of the net.
