COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio Junior Blue Jackets defeated the Chicago Steel 3-2 Saturday at Nationwide Arena, behind the play of defenseman Dennis Urban (1-1-2) and forward Alexei Dostoinov (1-1-2).
After a scoreless first period, Ohio (11-38-7, 29 pts.) got on the scoreboard at 2:27 of the second period when Urban circled the net and then got a backhanded shot past Chicago goalie Rob Madore. The Junior Blue Jackets 1-0 lead didn't last long, as Chicago (11-40-2, 24 pts.) struck back just over two minutes later on a goal by Dan Ryan.
The Junior Blue Jackets took the lead into the third period after winger Charles Brockett scored on a pass from center Tim Hall. For Brockett it was his 20th point of the season and 30th for Hall, who leads the team.
The Steel fought back early in the third period with a goal by Dan Otto. Ohio had the final response when Dostoinov scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 7:26 mark of the final period. Goalie Corson Cramer recorded 22 saves in the victory.
The Junior Blue Jackets go on the road for two games next weekend, beginning at the Chicago on Friday at 8 p.m. Ohio then travels to Green Bay to face the Gamblers at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The team's final regular season home game before the playoffs is Friday, April 13 in the Dispatch Ice Haus against the Steel. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
