Junior Blue Jackets Down Musketeers 4-2
Columbus, OH. - Ohio goaltender Pasquale Terrazzano made 28 saves in winning his eighth straight decision as the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets defeated the Sioux City Musketeers 4-2 Friday night at the Dispatch Ice Haus.
The Junior Blue Jackets (19-22-5, 43 pts.) opened the scoring in the first period when forward Derek Roehl scored his team-leading 23rd goal of the season on the power play at 5:50 on a goal assisted by forwards Rich Leitner and Justin Cseter. Forward Clark MacLean tallied his ninth of the season in the second to extend the lead to 2-0, sliding a shot between Musketeers goalie Steve Thompson. The goal was assisted by Andy Taranto and Greg Pateryn.
The Musketeers (27-19-2, 56 pts.) got on the board when forward Tom Olczyk scored at 11:58 of the second to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Ohio defenseman Pat Goebel responded with a power-play goal less than three minutes later to give the Junior Jackets a 3-1 advantage heading into the second intermission. Ohio forward Rich Leitner pushed the lead to 4-1 on a power-play goal in the third on assists by Roehl and Goebel, and Sioux City capped the scoring when forward Travis Oleksuk scored less than a minute later.
Terrazzano turned away 28 of 30 shots for his 13th victory of the season, while his counterpart, Thompson, stopped 31of 35 Ohio shots. The Junior Blue Jackets finished 3-of-7 on the power play, while Sioux City went 0 for 5.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night to conclude the weekend and season series. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
