Wearing John Deere jerseys Friday, the Waterloo Black Hawks plowed past the Des Moines Buccaneers, 3-1.

Craig Smith scored the only goal in the first period while cutting through the right-wing circle at 10:08.

During the second period, Billy Maday jammed in a loose puck after a Brock Montpetit shot with the pair on a two-on-one rush at 12:43.

The Buccaneers broke up Matt DiGirolamo's shutout bid at 13:51 of the third period, when Taylor Matson scored unassisted. DiGirolamo stopped the Buccaneers other 17 shots. Montpetit capped the win in the final seconds with an empty-net goal.

The Hawks will wear John Deere colors one more time Saturday against the Chicago Steel at 7:05. After the game, the uniforms will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting Waterloo Youth Hockey. The game is also sponsored by Waterloo Golf Headquarters; the first 3,000 fans will receive a $5 Waterloo Golf Headquarters gift certificate.
