Waterloo Downs Dubuque 5-0 at Young Arena

Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
After a tight first two periods, the Waterloo Black Hawks scored three third period goals to jump past Dubuque 5-0 on Saturday night. Waterloo had good jump all game and tallied twice on the power play to complete the weekend sweep of Dubuque. Waterloo improved to 22-10-1-3 and Dubuque fell to 16-14-3-3.
-A night after allowing just two goals, Jared Moe was two better as he secured a shutout over the Fighting Saints. It was the third shutout of the season against Dubuque and the first goalie other than Evan Fear to shut the team down. Moe made 25 saves.
-The Waterloo power play was tremendous after their first opportunity. The Fighting Saints looked great during their first two minutes shorthanded, but then Waterloo exploded. The Black Hawks scored two goals and their power play, which is nearly 35% at home, showed why it is such a dangerous weapon.
-Vladislav Firstov scored the opening goal and it ended up being the game winner. Firstov notched his 18th tally and continued his stranglehold on the rookie scoring race. The goal was a nice turning forehand in the slot.
-The game was tight through two and it was 1-0 until nearly 17:00 minutes of the second period. Waterloo went in to the second break up two. A Wyatt Schingoethe power play tally early the third gave Waterloo some separation.
-Dubuque has had a rough go of it in the Young Arena so far this season. The Fighting Saints have lost both games by five goals. Dubuque has had trouble getting the offense going in Waterloo.
-Matej Blumel, who scored twice last night was kept quiet for the most part in this game. Emill Ohrval had a quiet series in general. The Black Hawks flexed their depth during the series.
-Aaron Randazzo withstood an onslaught of shots in the game as Waterloo peppered the Fighting Saints net minder with 40 shots. Randazzo made 35 saves and kept his team in the game through two periods of play.
-The Fighting Saints will have a chance to rebound next Friday against the Madison Capitols. Madison has played Dubuque tight twice this season. It will be the first game between the two teams in Madison and it will mark the only game of the weekend for Dubuque.
