Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - The 62 games scheduled for the 61st season of Waterloo hockey were unveiled by the United States Hockey League on Monday, beginning with a matchup against the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday, September 24th during the DICK'S Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.
This will be the second consecutive year the Black Hawks have met Youngstown on neutral ice during the Fall Classic. Last season, Waterloo prevailed 2-0. The Hawks' first true road game is against the Des Moines Buccaneers on Saturday, October 1st. One week later, on October 8th, the season's first game at Young Arena will pit Waterloo against the defending Anderson Cup regular season champion Tri-City Storm at 6:05 p.m.
"Black Hawks fans have been anticipating this announcement ever since our exciting playoff run wrapped up in May," said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene. "We have been fielding calls and messages regularly...everything from plans for birthday parties and special gatherings to at least one couple trying to schedule their wedding on a non-game day to assure that family and friends actually show up for the ceremony, so we are very pleased to share the details with everyone today."
Some of the premier home dates in 2022/23 include:
- Saturday, October 29th versus the Dubuque Fighting Saints, the first game in an eight-game homestand.
- Thursday, November 24th, the Hawks' annual Thanksgiving game against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
- Saturday, December 31st, when Youngstown visits to conclude calendar year 2022.
- Friday, January 6th, as Waterloo meets the Sioux City Musketeers to extend the USHL's longest rivalry.
- Saturday, April 22nd, the regular season finale versus Dubuque.
Waterloo's Saturday home games will begin at 6:05 p.m. A Sunday, October 30th contest with the Des Moines Buccaneers is slated for 3:05 p.m. All other games will begin at 7:05 p.m. Game dates and start times are subject to change.
Last season, the Black Hawks were 28-30-4, including a 17-11-3 home mark at Young Arena. Waterloo capped the year with an opening round playoff series upset of the Lincoln Stars before being edged by the Sioux City in the Western Conference semifinals.
