Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI - July 27th, 2011 - The Waterloo Bucks wanted to avoid a three game sweep against the Green Bay Bullfrogs on Wednesday night at Joannes Stadium. Joel Hutter did the best he could to make sure the Bucks left the Jo with a win. In the fifth inning, Hutter blasted a shot to left that gave Waterloo a lead that the 'Frogs could not rally back from. Green Bay starter Cameron Dullnig (0-2) lasted only two innings and took his second loss of the year. Even with the 4-3 loss, the 'Frogs still trail two and half games behind first place.
Fireworks began in the second inning when Jeff Popick hit a solo shot off Dullnig to begin the inning. After a walk to Sean Borman, Colin Keefe doubled to left and Borman would score on a throwing error by Phillip Ervin. Keefe would later score on a wild pitch to give the Bucks an early 3-0 lead.
The Bullfrogs continued the action in the bottom of the second when Billy Moon led off the inning with a single to right, and followed that up with two stolen bases. Ryan Allgrove would hit a single to center to score Moon and Allgrove would later score on a single by Phillip Ervin. The 'Frogs had the chance to take the lead down 3-2 with the bases loaded and only one out, but Jonathan Walsh and Ty Filliben would strike out to end the inning.
Both the Bucks and 'Frogs would exchange home runs in the fifth and sixth. Former teammates only a year ago, Hutter connected in the fifth, and Paul Hoenecke would answer his old teammate back with a solo shot of his own in the sixth. Green Bay had a chance to either tie or take the lead in the sixth after Allgrove doubled immediately following Hoenecke's home run. Nik Balog singled to left that put runners on the corners with only one out. Alec Mehrten hit a groundball to third base and Allgrove broke for home on contact, but was cut down by the third baseman Sean Borman. Ervin would then strikeout to end the possible rally.
Green Bay's last big opportunity came in the eighth after Moon reached second with one out, but neither Allgrove nor Balog could drive Moon home keeping the score at 4-3.
Garcia came in to replace Dullnig in the third inning and had one of his better performances on the year. Except for the Hutter home run in the fifth, Garcia only gave up only one other hit in five innings while striking out three. Chase Stevens also only lasted two innings for Waterloo and Chris Dunn (2-4) pitched four innings for the win.
The 'Frogs have a two-game road trip at Wisconsin Rapids and return home on Saturday July 30th for a five game home-stand. Saturday is a funeral giveaway presented by Lyndahl Funeral Home. Someone will get an all expenses paid trip to their final resting place. Individual, group, season tickets and 7 game all you can eat plans are available by calling 920-497-7225 or by logging on to www.greenbaybullfrogs.com for more information.
