Lake Erie Crushers News Release

AVON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, erased an early 4-0 deficit at Sprenger Healthcare Stadium on Tuesday evening, but still fell at home to the Washington Wild Things, 5-4.

The loss for the Crushers (13-21) was their sixth in a row, marking their longest losing streak of the season, while the win for the Wild Things (18-15) was their third in four games against the Crushers this season.

It didn't start well for the Crushers, as the first three batters of the game reached safely for the Wild Things on a pair of base hits and a walk, setting up a Grand Slam from Kane Sweeney in the top of the first inning that was deposited into the kids' zone area beyond the wall in right field.

The Crushers were able to chip away at the lead, plating single runs in the first two innings of the contest. Parker Norris started the bottom of the first inning with a single to center, and scored two batters later on Brandon Murray's RBI double down the right field line.

Lake Erie added another in the bottom of the second. Josh McAdams started the inning with a double down the left field line. Newly acquired L.J. Kalawaia moved him over to third on a groundout to first, and he scored on Brandon Oliver's RBI groundout.

The Crushers took advantage of an error, and some heads up base running in the bottom of the fifth inning to score twice and tie the game. Brandon Oliver reached on shortstop Justin Bohn's error to start the inning, and Max Casper laid down a sacrifice bunt to move him over to second. Norris followed with a run scoring single to right field, and he advanced to second base on the play. Norris tagged up from second to third on Jordan Dean's fly out to right, and scored the game tying run moments later on a wild pitch.

Washington capitalized on Lake Erie's only error of the game to regain the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Rashad Brown started the inning with a double, and Bohn followed with a sacrifice bunt. On the play, Connor Reed's (1-5) throw to first base in an attempt to get Bohn ended up in foul territory, allowing Brown to score the eventual game winning run.

Lake Erie stranded five over the final two innings. They left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, and despite having two on with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth, they were not able to cash in.

Trevor Foss (4-3) scored the victory for the Wild Things after allowing four runs, only two earned on six hits while fanning five over seven innings. Zach Strecker (6) worked 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to grab the save. Reed took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts over seven innings.

The Crushers will continue their three-game series with the Washington Wild Things at Sprenger Healthcare Stadium on Wednesday night. Right-hander Payton Lobdell (2-4, 9.21) will make the start for the Crushers and the Wild Things will counter with right-hander Chase Cunningham (4-0, 2.79). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
