Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, secured their first series of the 2006 season as they shut out the Windy City ThunderBolts Friday night at Hawkinson Ford Field.
Washington started off with two runs in the first inning after a Mike Arbinger triple that scored in Lance Koenig. Pat Peavy was able to hit a sacrifice groundout to score in Arbinger.
Not another run would score in the game until the top of the eighth when Arbinger hit in the speedy Kyle Werman from second base. First baseman Andy Hudak added one more assurance run in the ninth with a solo blast, his first of the season.
Pitcher Pat Kohorst picked up the victory for Washington. Kohorst (2-0) went five scoreless innings for the Wild Things, allowing only four hits, as well as two strikeouts and one walk.
Washington improves its record to 4-5 as Windy City falls to 3-6 in the season. The team travels to Rockford, Illinois tomorrow to take on the Rockford Riverhawks in a three-game series. First game is tomorrow night with an 8:05 Eastern Time start.
