Sauget, Illinois: Florence's season has been troubled by inconsistency, when the hitting shows up, the pitching doesn't, and vice versa. Last night the Pitching showed up, but the bats failed to come alive against the tough Gateway pitching, and Florence fell to the Grizzlies, 3-1.

The lone run was scored by Greg Stone, he was driven in by Chris Brown on an RBI double. Brown is hitting an astounding .458. Trevor Hall went 2-4, raising his batting average to .323. Mitch Goins (1-1, 1.54 ERA) pitched a great game for the Freedom, he went six and a third, giving up only one earned run, striking out three. He was relieved by Drew Jackson, who tossed a perfect inning and two thirds.

The Freedom look to avoid the sweep tonight as they wrap up the series with Gateway. First pitch is at 8:05, you can listen to all the action on www.florencefreedom.com. After tonight, the Freedom head just down the road to play the River City Rascals. The Freedom don't return home to Champion Window Field until June 10th.
