BOYDS, MD. (Feb. 22, 2015) - The Washington Spirit announced today the club has signed Argentinian forward Estefania Banini, formerly with Colo Colo of the Chilean Women's Football Championship in Chile.
"Estefania is an exceptional talent and I do not think there is a player like her in the league," Spirit general manager and coach Mark Parsons said. "She is going to give the team a very different dynamic and provide us with real quality in the final third."
The 24-year-old from Mendoza, Argentina will join the Spirit after four seasons at Chilean club Colo Colo. In September 2014, Banini scored the penalty for Argentina to seal a 2-0 victory over in Brazil in a Copa America game. Most recently, Banini missed the International Tournament of Brasilia in December 2014, due to the finals of her club playoffs.
"It is difficult to express in words what one feels to fulfill a dream and join a club like Washington Spirit," Banini said. "I am extremely excited and eager to arrive and begin this journey with a great team. I am grateful to the club and Mark for this opportunity"
The Washington Spirit will kick off the 2015 NWSL regular season against the Houston Dash on Friday, April 10 at BBVA Compass Stadium.
