Washington Spirit News Release

Leesburg, Va. - The Washington Spirit have selected Tara McKeown with the eighth overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft.

McKeown, a senior forward for the USC Trojans, has played in a total of 62 games over three years, making 53 starts. In her 2,527 minutes of game time, McKeown scored 25 times and earned 20 assists. In her junior year with USC, McKeown was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America first team, Pac-12 Forward of the Year, All-Pac-12 first team and All-Pacific Region first team. Due to Covid-19, USC and the Pac-12 did not play a fall season in 2020. Instead, they are expected to play a shortened spring season.

Because of a waiver obtained by the NWSL from the NCAA, players picked in the 2021 NWSL Draft will have until Friday, January 22, 2021 to decide whether to report immediately to their NWSL club or at the conclusion of the spring collegiate season.

McKeown was selected with the eighth overall pick in the draft and the Spirit have three remaining picks - the 19th, 29th and 39th picks.
