Washington, D.C. - The Washington Spirit relaunched its Advanced Development Program (ADP) on Wednesday, April 27th at the club's training facility in Leesburg, Virginia following a hiatus brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The session included 24 field players and 3 goalkeepers from 11 different youth clubs and was run by members of the Spirit coaching staff including head coach Kris Ward, assistant coach Angela Salem and goalkeeper coach Paul Crichton.

"I thought that the ADP went really well and I know the staff is really excited to continue on with it," said Salem. "The players really displayed awesome talent, quality play and competitiveness. I'm looking forward to doing more events like these."

The Washington Spirit is planning on having two more ADP sessions this spring. A similar pool of players will be invited back with the aim of developing the young players' skills and growing the program.

Purpose: As part of "Project Change the Game Now," the Washington Spirit has created a market training program for advanced youth player development. This is a unique program that offers a 'Path 2 Pro' perspective for learning what it takes to be a professional player in all aspects of development both on and off the field. This program is intended to bring together the top players in the market at the U17 and U19 levels as part of an identification process for the Washington Spirit and U.S. Soccer for potential future NWSL professional prospects and U.S. Soccer Youth National Team selections.

Identification & Selection Process: This program is INVITATION ONLY in which club directors are notified of players that are selected and given registration instructions. Each session is separate. Players can be invited to subsequent sessions based on performance.
