Washington Mystics to kick off home opener

Washington, D.C. - The Washington Mystics will kick kick-off the home part of the team's 2008 regular season this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Verizon Center against the Houston Comets. The team will also launch its block party, sponsored by Under Armour, prior to the game from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. on F Street. The block party will feature moon bounces and basketball games for kids, face painters, arts and craft area and sampling by various sponsors. There will be performances by the Washington D.C. Showstoppers Community Band and Ballou Senior High School Marching Band.

"After months of hard work, we are excited to welcome all of our fans back to Verizon Center for our 2008 home opener," Mystics Chief Operating Officer Greg Bibb stated. "The Mystics staff has done a great job of creating a day full of fun and surprises, starting with our block party and continuing through our game vs. the Comets. We expect to have a big crowd on hand to tip-off season number 11 of women's professional basketball in the nation's capital."

Mystics President and Managing Partner, Sheila C. Johnson along with the entire 2008 Washington Mystics team will come out to address the crowd. Fans will then be ushered into the arena for the game.
