Washington Mystics Select Natalie Novosel & LaSondra Barrett

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Mystics selected Natalie Novosel from the University of Notre Dame and LaSondra Barrett from Louisiana State University with the eighth and 10th overall picks in today's WNBA draft. The last time Washington had two first round selections was in 2002 when the team drafted Stacey Dales and Asjha Jones with the third and fourth overall picks.
"Natalie and LaSondra give us players with three-point shooting ability and versatility," said General Manager/Head Coach Trudi Lacey. "They also bring a team-first mentality and we are very excited to have them both on our roster."
A 5-11 guard, Novosel was instrumental in helping the Fighting Irish compete in back-to-back National Championships. She averaged 10.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game over her career, led the Big East conference in both three-point field goals and free throw percentages, and was named to consecutive All-Big East First Team. Novosel was also an AP All-America Honorable Mention recipient and a Wade Trophy finalist. In 2011, she set a school record for most free throws made (183).
A 6-2 forward, Barrett was named to the All-SEC First Team and was a Wade Trophy finalist. Her career averages include 12.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Barrett is one of only 17 players in school history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. She has also earned various academic honors throughput her collegiate career.
Washington also selected in the third round guard Anjale Barrett (26th overall) from the University of Maryland and guard Briana Gilbreath (35th overall) from the University of Southern California.
