Atlanta Dream News Release
ATLANTA, April 16, 2012 - The Atlanta Dream selected University of Connecticut guard Tiffany Hayes with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft.
"I am very excited about joining the Atlanta Dream," said Hayes. "They have reached the WNBA Finals the last two seasons and have a talented roster with a great player in Angel McCoughtry. Hopefully I can be a complementary player and bring some versatility. I can't wait to come in to training camp and do whatever they need me to do to make the team better."
Hayes, a 5-10 guard, was a two-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection and helped Connecticut to two national championships and four Final Four appearances. She led the Huskies to an overall record of 147-7 during her collegiate career. Hayes tallied 23 twenty-plus point performances at Connecticut, including three thirty-plus point performances as a senior.
Hayes averaged 14.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game during her senior campaign, leading the team in steals and finishing second in scoring and rebounding. She helped the Huskies to a fourth consecutive Final Four and was selected as the Most Outstanding Player for the 2012 Kingston Regional. Hayes was also a Wooden Award and Wade Trophy finalist, an All-BIG EAST First Team selection and an Associated Press Third Team All-American. She ranked second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, fifth in free throw percentage, sixth in steals and tenth in scoring.
The Dream also added Isabelle Yacoubou, a 6-4 center, in the third round with the No. 32 overall pick. Yacoubou is a member of the French national team and is currently playing for Ros Casares in Spain. She will not play in the WNBA in 2012 due to national team commitments.
The Atlanta Dream tips off its fifth season this summer at Philips Arena as part of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the world's longest-running women's professional sports league. The Dream, the defending two-time, back-to-back Eastern Conference Champion, will host a preseason game on May 5 against the Tulsa Shock at 2 p.m. The Dream opens its regular season home schedule on May 25 against the New York Liberty at 7:30 p.m. Single game, group and season tickets are on sale now.
