Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA -- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced two transactions Wednesday.
First baseman Aaron Janusey signed with the Wild Things after attending the 2008 post-season tryout camp in October. The Venetia, PA native played at Duquesne University where he batted .322 with 12 doubles, 10 home runs and 42 RBI in 56 games during his senior season in 2008. During his junior season he led the Dukes in batting average (.333), hits (69), HR (12), slugging percentage (.444), and RBI (51). His 51 RBI that season was the fourth best single season total all-time at Duquesne. That season he broke his own fielding record with 410 putouts and 453 total chances.
Janusey played high school ball for Peters Township where he was a 2004 All-Section choice and an Almanac Diamond Dozen Selection.
"Aaron had good power numbers at Duquesne and was solid defensively," said Mark Mason, field manager for the Wild Things. "We're looking forward to seeing him in camp."
Outfielder Blake Butler made his professional debut in 2008 with the Alexandria Aces of the United League, batting .279 with 36 hits, 10 RBI, and 33 walks in 40 games. He signed with the Aces as a free agent from the University of Alabama, Huntsville where, as a senior in 2008, he batted .299 in 48 games with four doubles, seven triples, 30 RBI and 23 walks. As a junior he started 46 of 48 games in 2007, batting .282 with 27 RBI and led the team with five triples with stolen 12 bases. Butler transferred to UAH from Walters State Community College where he hit .345 with 61 RBI as a sophomore.
"Blake is a fast, top of the order type hitter," added Mason. "He's patient at the plate and takes his walks. Defensively, he can play all three outfield positions very well. We're excited about having him signed and coming to camp."
The Wild Things open the 2009 season at home when they host the Lake Erie Crushers May 22nd. Season ticket packages are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
