LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks announced Wednesday that they have added another arm to the pitching staff.
The RiverHawks have signed right-hander Shaun Sumter, a second-year professional.
Sumter made his debut last summer with the Texarkana Gunslingers of the independent Continental League. He was 0-0 with a 5.19 earned-run average in six appearances.
Last spring at NAIA Kansas Wesleyan University, Sumter was 8-3 with 2.73 ERA in 13 starts.
Sumter, 23, has Rookie-2 status in the Frontier League.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season at 7:05 p.m. May 21 at Windy City and play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. May 26 against the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti.
