
Warthogs set season highs in 18-4 win on Saturday

Winston-Salem, NC â The Winston-Salem Warthogs (19-14) set a Carolina League high of 18 runs in their 18-4 win over Salem on Saturday night. Reliever Aaron Kirkland earned his first win for the Warthogs. Kirkland tossed 2 1/3 innings and gave up just one hit and struck out one. Warthogs' starter Scott Patten did not pitch long enough to get credit with the win. The loss went to Salem's Manny Santillan. Santillan gave up nine runs in just innings of work.
Winston-Salem sent 14 hitters to the plate in a nine run third inning. Eric Welsh and Jeremy Reed highlighted the inning with two run homeruns. The Warthogs have 33 extra-base hits in their last seven games. The Warthogs also have 46 hits in their last three games. The Warthogs would again bat around in the eighth, scoring five more runs. Six different Warthogs' hitters had more than one hit. Jeremy Reed had a season four hits and 3 RBIs. Daylan Holt and Mike Morse each had three hits. Ruddy Yan, Mike Spidale, and Eric Welsh each had two hits apiece.
The four game series will conclude with a Sunday matinee at 2:05pm. LHP Ryan Wing (3-1, 2.04) will throw for the Warthtogs. RHP Jared Gothreaux (4-0, 2.05) will toss for Salem. All the play by play will be heard on 600/1200am WSJS and on the internet at www.warthogs.com.
