Winston-Salem, NC – The Winston-Salem Warthogs (15-11) gave up a run in the ninth to Wilmington and lost 3-2 on Sunday at Ernie Shore Field. The Blue Rocks took three of the four game in the weekend series. Josh Fields (3-2) gave up the go ahead run in the top of ninth and suffered the loss. Mike Natale (1-0) got the win as he was the pitcher of record when the Blue Rocks scored in the ninth. Jorge Vasquez earned the save in the ninth.

The Warthogs took the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the first. With one out, Tommy Nicholson singled up the middle and went to second on a walk to Jeremy Reed. Nicholson scored on an RBI single by Daylan Holt. The Warthogs increased its lead to 2-0 with a run in the third. Jeremy Reed doubled to right and scored on a Mike Morse single to left.

Warthogs' starter Wyatt Allen only gave up two runs on two hits in six innings of work. But it was the two hits, both with two outs, he gave up that were costly. Justin Cowan and J.D. Alleva both homered off Allen to tie the game. Cowan blast came in the fourth and Alleva's was hit in the sixth.

The Blue Rocks scored the game winning run in the top of the ninth off of Warthogs' reliever Josh Fields. Adres Blanco reached to lead off the ninth with an infield bunt single. John Draper laid down a sac bunt that was field by Warthogs' catcher Chris Stewart. Stewart threw to second base, trying to force out Blanco. However, no one was covering the bag and the throw went into center field allowing Blanco to reach third. Darren Fenster followed an RBI single to left to score Blanco from third.

The Warthogs hit the road for a five game road trip to Lynchburg and Salem. The Hillcats and Warthogs will play a doubleheader on Monday at 6pm.
