
Warthogs drop 7-6 game in tenth at Salem

The Winston-Salem Warthogs (17-14) dropped a 7-6 game Salem in the tenth inning on Thursday night. Reinaldo Ruiz singled in Trevor Mote from second base off of Warthogs reliever Josh Fields (3-4) with two outs in the bottom of the tenth. The key play in the game in the bottom of the seventh. The Warthogs were up 6-4 when Jon Helquist and Mike Rodriguez were walked. During the next at-bat by Brandon Caraway, Warthogs' catcher Chris Stewart attempted a pickoff of Rodriquez at first, but his throw sailed into right field scoring Helquist from second and sending Rodriquez to third. Caraway followed with a sac fly to tie the game at 6. Winston-Salem had 14 hits and left a season high 15 runners on base. Chris Stewart, Mike Morse and Daylan Holt each homered in the loss. The four game series will continue on Friday in Winston-Salem at 7:15pm. All the play by play will be heard on 600/1200am WSJS and on the internet at www.warthogs.com.
