Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

WILMINGTON, DE – The Wilmington Blue Rocks swept a doubleheader from the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, winning game one in walk-off fashion, 2-1, while taking the nightcap, 5-1, Friday night at Frawley Stadium. Zack Greinke pitched the first complete-game victory of his professional career. Justin Cowan collected back-to-back multi-hit games for the Rocks in the wins.

Aaron Herr smacked a solo homerun over the Herr's sign in left-center field for the lone run surrendered by Greinke (5-0) in game one. The Pelicans managed just four hits, walking once and fanning six times. Greinke is now tied for the Carolina League lead in wins with five (tied with teammate Kyle Middleton).

Wilmington (21-12) scored in the second on an RBI double from John Draper. The Rocks won in walk-off fashion in the seventh when Justin Cowan smacked a ball hard at third baseman Andy Marte, which bounced into left field and allowed Chris Fallon to score the winning run. Relief pitcher Marcel Vienna (1-1) pitched the final two and two-third innings for the Pelicans and got the loss. Macay McBride started and went four innings for Myrtle Beach, allowing the run on six hits, walking five and striking out five.

In the second game, the Rocks exploded for four runs in the first inning. Myrtle Beach starter Chris Waters (0-1) surrendered a very rare thing in baseball, three sacrifice flies in one inning. Ruben Gotay, Fallon and Trey Dyson each collected an RBI in that fashion in the inning, and Scott Walter added an RBI double.

The second inning featured a single run from both teams. In the top half, Carlos Duran recorded a sacrifice fly off Rocks starter Zach McClellan to make the score 4-1. The Blue Rocks countered with an RBI single from Fallon to round out the game's runs. McClellan went four-plus innings, allowing the run on four hits with a strikeout. Eduardo Villacis (1-1) earned the win in relief, going two innings with a hit allowed, one walk and one strikeout. Brad Stiles pitched a perfect seventh inning, fanning one Pelican.

Myrtle Beach (10-22) collected just four hits in the opener and five hits in the nightcap.

BLUE ROCKS NOTES: The Blue Rocks and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans play the third game of the four-game series on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Wilmington starter Kyle Middleton (5-1) takes to the hill on Saturday and will be opposed by right-hander Matt Wright (0-4). Villacis has inherited 10 runners this season and has allowed just one to score. Wilmington has swept two doubleheaders this season.
