Frederick Keys News Release

Keys first baseman Mike Huggins was named Carolina League Batter of the Week for the week ending May 7 by the Carolina League office on Thursday, May 8. It's the first such award received by a Keys player this season.

From May 1 to May 7, Huggins batted .577 in 8 games and was 15-for-26 during that period, including 3 doubles and 1 home run. The right-handed hitting first baseman batted in 10 runs and scored 1 run for the Keys during his award-winning week.

A resident of San Antonio, TX, Huggins has reached base safely by hit or walk in 21 consecutive games dating back to April 19. He drove in runs in 6 consecutive games from May 3 to May 7. On the road against the Potomac Cannons on May 4, Huggins hit a two-run double with two outs in the 9th inning that sent the game to extra innings where the Keys would eventually win, 9-8, in 10-innings.

For the season, Huggins is leading the Keys with a .343 batting average and 19 RBI. Huggins also has 2 home runs on the season. He places third on the Carolina League's Batting Top 10 list and is third in the Carolina League with 37 hits for the season.
