Warthogs bested by Myrtle Beach

Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem Warthogs (28-23) lost to Myrtle Beach, 7-4, Wednesday afternoon. The Pelicans won two of three games in the series. Warthogs' reliever, Demetrius Banks, suffered the loss. Warthogs' starter, Jack Egbert, pitched well but got a no decision. Egbert gave up on earned run on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Myrtle Beach Pelicans' reliever, Stephen Russell, earned his first win. Moises Hernandez pitched 1 1/3 innings for his second save.

The Warthogs led 3-0 after the six inning. David Cook got the Warthogs on the board with a solo home run, his fifth of the season, in the second. Later on in the second, Rod Allen Jr. singled and scored on an RBI single by Chris Amador.

The Pelicans made it a game with two runs in the seventh on a two-run home run by Xan Barksdale. Chris Kelly homered for the Warthogs to make the score 4-2 after the seventh.

Myrtle Beach hit around, sending ten batters to the plate, in the eighth. Brandon Jones tied the game at 4 with a two-run home run off reliever Banks. Carl Loadenthal's RBI double put the Pelicans up to stay. Robert Marcial also had a two-run single in the eighth.

David Cook led the Warthogs with two hits. Carl Loadenthal led the Pelicans with three hits.

The Warthogs continue their seven game home stand with the first of four games with Lynchburg Friday at 7pm. RHP Clayton Hamilton (1-4, 5.82) will toss for the Hillcats. LHP Wes Whisler (4-4, 4.44) will pitch for the Warthogs.
