TODAY'S GAME:
The Hillcats conclude a seven-game homestand with the final game of a three-game set against the Potomac Nationals...Last night, the Cats were handed a 13-4 defeat by the Nats...The Hillcats surrendered a season-high 8 runs and 7 hits in the third inning...Still, Lynchburg has won five of their last seven games...With the loss, the Cats fell 1.5-games of both Wilmington and Potomac for first place in the Northern Division ...All four Northern Division squads are seperated by a total of 1.5-games in the standings ... Currently, every team in the division posts a losing record...The only time a team advanced to the CL post-season without an above .500 record was in 1985...The Winston-Salem Spirits captured the Southern Division first-half crown with a record of 35- 35...Following today, Lynchburg will play 15 of their last 19 games in the first half on the road...

- Norderum, 24, is a 6-3, 220-pound left-hander drafted by Montreal in the 31st round of the 1999 draft out of Sacramento City (CA) CC. The Redding, California native began the season in Harrisburg (AA, EL) and made one appearance (.2 ip/1 er). Last season he compiled a 4-5 record with 3 saves in 38 appearances between both Harrisburg and Potomac. He hoists a 21-35 career record and a 5.39 ERA (156 g, 74 gs, 499.1 ip, 553, 349 r, 299 er, 276 bb, 343 k). Norderum began his professional playing career in 2000 with Vermont (A, NYPL) and went 5-3 with a 3.77 ERA while playing for former Hillcats manager Tim Leiper.

Hillcats OF Nyjer Morgan had his 21-game hit streak come to an end in Lynchburg's 13-4 loss yesterday... He went 0-for-4 in the setback... Morgan hit 30-80, .375-0-8 during the run...It was the second longest streak in Hillcats history (see graphic below)...The longest hit streak in Hillcats history is 22 games, amassed by Josh Bonifay in 2002...Bonifay batted .424 (39-92) during his franchise-best hit streak...He also reached base safely in 41 consecutive games that summer...The longest hit streak in the Carolina League this season was Brian Barton's 22-gamer for Kinston...The longest hit streak in Carolina League history is 31 games, accomplished by Martinsville's Pat Cooper in 1948...Morgan's streak began on April 24th and was interrupted for nearly two weeks due to a leg injury sustained on May 8th...At the time of the injury, Morgan was leading all of professional baseball with 21 stolen bases...
