November 27, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Three third-period goals helped the Moose Jaw Warriors pull away from the Swift Current Broncos on their way to a 6-2 win at Mosaic Place on Saturday night.
Jagger Firkus has two goals and three points, Cade Hayes picked up a goal and two points, and Martin Rysavy and Matthew Gallant chipped in with two assists each in the win for the Warriors.
The Warriors came out of the gate firing and picked up an early goal from Firkus, his eighth of the season, just 6:15 into the game.
Swift Current responded with a breakaway goal from Cole Nagy just over two minutes later to tie the game, but Moose Jaw went back in front when Firkus set up Hayes for his fourth of the season.
The Broncos wouldn't go away though and tied the game back up with a point shot from Owen Pickering with under five minutes left in the first period.
Ryder Korczak put the Warriors back in front with his seventh of the season just 1:49 into the second period.
The score stayed that way through the rest of the frame as the two teams went back-and-forth with Moose Jaw outshooting Swift Current 13-10 in the period.
The Warriors finally broke away in the third period.
Daemon Hunt scored his seventh of the season with a wrist shot from the point that found its way through traffic.
Just over three minutes later, Firkus found a rebound in front and buried his second of the game and ninth of the season.
Then with just 6:55 left to play, Denton Mateychuk broke into the slot and scored his seventh of the season, finishing off a three-goal third period and sealing the win for Moose Jaw.
The Warriors outshot the Broncos 15-3 in the third and 48-31 in the game to pick up the victory.
Carl Tetachuk made 29 saves in goal for the Warriors.
Moose Jaw went 1-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Warriors picked up five out of six points during their three games in four nights. They return to the ice on Tuesday night to host the Brandon Wheat Kings at Mosaic Place.
