Pats Aim for Fourth Straight Win

Red Deer, Alta. - Tonight the Regina Pats (9-10-0) play the Red Deer Rebels (14-8-1) at 8:00 p.m., Central Standard Time inside the Peavey Mart Centrium.

It's the first of two games this weekend and the third game of this four game Alberta road trip. The Pats are coming off a 3-2 overtime win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday night, extending their winning-streak to three games, and to four straight on the road.

Connor Bedard scored the overtime winner with 1.1 seconds left on the clock, while Matthew Kieper was the games first star, making 40 saves on 42 shots, earning his ninth win of the season. Alex Geci got the Pats on the board early, scoring his first two goals in the WHL in the first eight minutes of the opening frame. The final shots were 42-35 for the Hurricanes, with the Pats going 1-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

On the other side, the Red Deer Rebels are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Friday night. Ben King scored his 15th of the season in the loss, while extending his point-streak to three games (3G-2A). Connor Ungar got the start, making 19 saves on 21 shots in the loss, as the Rebels were outshot 41-to-21, going 1-for-3 on their power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Rebels have now dropped their last two games since their five game winning-streak came to an end on November 24th. They hold a 7-4 record in the month of November, having won three of their last four home games. They lead the WHL in total games with 23.

These two teams last met on November 10th at the Brandt Centre, with the Rebels defeating the Pats 3-2. Talan Brigley scored the go-ahead goal short-handed late in the second period, while Kai Uchacz and Kalan Lind had the other tallies for the Rebels in the win. Tanner Howe and Stanislav Svozil scored for the Pats. Final shots were 34-26 for the Pats. Chase Coward made 32 saves on 34 shots and Matthew Kieper stopped 23 of 26.

Last season, the Regina Pats did not play the Red Deer Rebels as they were not in the Subway Hub Centre. The Pats went 3-0-1 in the season series against the Rebels in the 2019-20 season with all four games decided by one goal. Regina is 7-3-3 over their last 13 meetings against Red Deer since the 2017-18 season.

The Regina Pats are 3-0 since they parted ways with Dave Struch on November 18th, with GM John Paddock taking over as the Head Coach...the Pats have recorded wins against Moose Jaw (3-2), Medicine Hat (6-2) and Lethbridge (OTW, 3-2) under Paddock, outscoring opponents 12-to-6 during that time, while being outshot in two of those three games (104 SF / 113 SA).
