Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors, Kaiser Permanente and The Athletes' Corner are teaming up to bring the Swishes for Dishes initiative back to Santa Cruz for the 2023-24 season. In an effort to combat food insecurity throughout the Central Coast, 10 meals will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County for each point the Santa Cruz Warriors score this season.
"We're excited to continue the Swishes for Dishes initiative in Santa Cruz for the fourth season," said Chris Murphy, President of the Santa Cruz Warriors. "This program is vital in combating local food insecurity. Teaming up with Second Harvest Food Bank, Kaiser Permanente, and the Athletes' Corner, we aim to donate 50,000 or more meals to help families in need in Santa Cruz County."
Originally launched in 2020, the Santa Cruz Warriors, Kaiser Permanente, and The Athletes' Corner have donated 162,020 meals to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County over the past three seasons.
"Kaiser Permanente is committed to helping members and the communities we serve have access to the nutritious food they need to live a full and healthy life," said Eric Henry, Senior Vice President and Area Manager for Kaiser Permanente San Jose and Central Coast service areas. "We know partnerships like these are important because when people are hungry, lack proper nutrition, or cannot access the food they need to address medical needs, they are less likely to get or stay healthy."
The Santa Cruz Warriors open the season against the Stockton Kings at home on November 10 at 7 p.m. PT. All fans in attendance will receive an Opening Night T-shirt, courtesy of Kaiser Permanente. Limited tickets for Opening Night are still available by visiting santacruzbasketball.com or calling (831) 713-4400.
