Warriors Hold off Charge, 108-101

The Canton Charge (3-8), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, lost to the Santa Cruz Warriors (8-4), 108-101, at the Kaiser Permanente Arena on Tuesday night. The Charge are still looking for their first road win of the young season as they're 0-5 away from the friendly confines of the Memorial Civic Center.

Trailing 71-55 and 5:03 left in the third quarter, the Charge reserve unit came on to try and swing the game's momentum. Canton's bench was a combined +48 in the second half, but the hot-shooting Warriors would not be denied. The Warriors were 55% as a team in the second half, overcoming a brief Charge lead in the fourth quarter in part to 11 Darington Hobson points in the final 5:02.

Nick Minnerath paced the Charge with a season-high 21 points to go along with nine boards in 30 minutes. Jorge Gutierrez netted 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting with two steals in 27 minutes. Joe Harris scored 15 points in 26 minutes on assignment. Quinn Cook added 11 points and six assists in 27 minutes. Sir'Dominic Pointer came off the bench to add six points, nine boards, two steals, and four blocks in 22 minutes of all-around effort. Canton dished out a season-high 29 assists on 37 field goals, with 17 dimes coming in the first half.

Elliot Williams led all five Santa Cruz starters who scored in double figures with 29 points and nine assists in 39 minutes. Hobson posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds with seven assists and two steals in 39 minutes. Ronnie Brewer added a double-double of his own with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, 12 boards, and two steals in 30 minutes.

Canton finishes their west coast swing at the Bakersfield Jam (Phoenix Suns affiliate) on Thursday, December 17th at 10:00 p.m. The Charge return home on Saturday, December 19th at 7:00 p.m. to host the Erie BayHawks (Orlando Magic affiliate) for Cavs Night presented by GE Lighting!
