
Warriors Goalie Stops T-Birds

Seattle, December 30, 2007 - Moose Jaw Warriors goalie Joey Perricone stopped 40 of 42 shots to lead his team to a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds in front of 4,041 at KeyArena Sunday night.
The T-Birds fell behind by three goals in the first period but battled back over the next two periods to get within one goal, but Perricone was the difference, making several stellar saves in the second and third periods. The netminder made 13 saves in the first period, 17 in the second period, including a penalty shot and 12 in the third period to get the win. The T- Birds
The T-Birds are now 16-12-5-1 in the US Division standings. Seattle travels to Portland for their annual New Year's Eve game against the Winter Hawks at 5 p.m.
Moose Jaw took a 1-0 lead at 5:15 of the first period on a power-play goal by Frazer McLaren. Jordan Knackstedt and Keaton Ellerby had the assists.
Ryley Grantham scored at 14:32 of the first to put the Warriors in front 2-0. Joel Broda and Terrance Delaronde had the assists.
Joel Broda made a 3-0 Moose Jaw lead at 19:32 of the first. Giffen Nyren and Travis Hamonic had the assists.
Moose Jaw (20-10-4-3) outshot Seattle 14-13 in the first period.
Lindsay Nielsen put the T-Birds on the board 23 seconds into the second period.
Nielsen put a shot on goal from just inside the blue line. The puck rebounded off Moose Jaw goalie Joey Perricone and into the high slot. Nielsen followed his shot, go to the rebound and put the puck over Perricone on the blocker side. Scott Jackson and Bud Holloway had the assists on Nielsen's 10th goal of the year.
Greg Scott was awarded a penalty shot at 11:28 of the second when he was tripped from behind on a shorthanded breakaway. Scott came in on Perricone and unloaded a slap shot from the high slot but Perricone was able to cover his five hole and stop the shot.
Seattle carried the play in the second period and outshot Moose Jaw 17-5 in the period. The T-Birds led 30-19 in total shots after two periods.
Jeremy Boyer put back rebound of an Ian McKenzie shot at 11:14 of the third period to cut the Warriors lead to one goal. McKenzie brought the puck down the left side into the Warriors zone. He put a wrist shot on goal that hit Perricone in the mask and rebounded into the slot. Boyer was crashing the net and put the puck past Perricone high on the glove side. David Richard had the second assist on Boyer's 10th goal of the year.
Seattle goalie Jacob DeSerres made 21 saves on 24 shots and his record is now 8-5-0-1.
After the New Year's Eve game in Portland the T-Birds then have a home-and-home series with the Vancouver Giants on Friday, January 4, and Saturday, January 5. The T-Birds are in Vancouver on Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. game and they are at KeyArena on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. game.
Season tickets are currently on sale for 2007-08 at KeyArena. Fans purchasing 2007-08 season tickets will have the highest seating priority for the 2008-09 season as the Thunderbirds open the new Kent Events Center.
