Evan Pighin scored twice in the third period, the second on a penalty shot as the Chilliwack Bruins ended their five game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Prince George Cougars Saturday night in Prince George.

Bruins rookie David Robinson opened the scoring in the first period with his first WHL goal, Cody Smuk picked up the only assist. Chilliwack held a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes of play despite being outshot 14-6.

In the second, Ty Wishart knotted the game at one with just one second left in the period, sending the game to the third period with the teams tied at one.

Evan Pighin put the Bruins ahead by one with his 8th of the season on the power play at the 10:16 of the third period. Mark Santorelli and Nick Holden earned the assists. Pighin scored his second of the game, beating Prince George netminder with a nifty backhand deke on a penalty shot with 1:26 left in the final frame. The Cougars got a goal from Greg Gardner 29 seconds left but it wasn't enough as the game ended 3-2 in favor of the visitors.

Mark Friesen was strong again in goal for Chilliwack and was named the game's first star, turning aside 40 shots. The Bruins had 25 shots on goal in the game.

Chilliwack was 1/5 on the power play and killed off six of seven penalties.

Ice Chips: Not in the lineup for the Bruins tonight were Oscar Moller (World Juniors), Ryan Howse (World Under 17 Challenge), Partik Bhungal (leg injury), Cody Hobbs and David Hoda...With the assist tonight, Mark Santorelli now has 60 points this season and remains in first place in the WHL scoring race, three points ahead of Kelowna's Colin Long...Bruins goaltender Mark Friesen has stopped 114 of the last 119 shots he has faced (95.8%). On the road this season the Bruins power play is clicking at 26.1% (23/88). Since the 1996-97 season only five WHL teams have finished a season with a better success rate on the road. Three teams did it during the 1996-97 season: Brandon 30.3% (37/122), Lethbridge 29.9% (47/157) and Red Deer 29.7% (41/138). The Calgary Hitmen finished the 1999-00 season at 27.1% (48/177) and the Seattle Thunderbirds at 27.6% (51/185) in 2000-01. Last season the Bruins were 29/217 (13.4%).
