Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors dropped their final regular season home game to the Reno Bighorns 143-135 on Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Santa Cruz was paced by Dominique Sutton who recorded a double-double, finishing with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Elliot Williams also notched a double-double, for a total of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Blake Ahearn added 22 points, on a 5 of 9 shooting effort from beyond the arc.
Reno received a solid performance from Dar Tucker who finished with 53 points and 10 rebounds. Coby Karl logged his second triple-double of the season with 18 points, 14 assists, and 13 rebounds. David Stockton logged a double-double, tallying 23 points, 17 assists, and 6 rebounds.
Santa Cruz got a hot start to edge Reno 11-3 in the early minutes of the opening frame. Reno would push back on the Santa Cruz to grab an eight point edge heading into the second quarter. The Bighorns would continue to increase their distance from the Warriors, outscoring Santa Cruz 43-30 in the second period to lead by as many as 23 points.
Despite outscoring Reno 37-33 behind Elliot Williams's 14 third quarter points, the Bighorns would maintain the lead heading into the final frame. The Warriors fought back during the final quarter, outscoring the Bighorns 41-32 to come within 8 points of Reno. The late fourth-quarter rally fell short of eclipsing the Reno lead, as the opponent finished their season with a victory over the Warriors.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will travel to Bakersfield tomorrow night to face-off against the Jam for the West Division title at 7:00 p.m. PST. The Warriors will be hosting a West Division Watch Party at Kaiser Permanente Arena, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. PST. Fans can also listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM, or catch the game on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, via www.santacruzbasketball.com.
