Warriors Falter Down the Stretch to the Oklahoma City Blue, 101-111

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors (20-21) went back-and-forth with Oklahoma for most of last night until the Blue (22-20) went on a 10-0 fourth quarter run to take the win 111-101.

The Warriors were led by Golden State center Damian Jones, who had 27 points, 21 of which came in the first half, on 12-of-14 shooting from the field. The second-year center, currently on assignment in Santa Cruz, also notched his third 20 point-10 rebound game of the season, and his first since December 3 against Sioux Falls, with a game-high 12 boards.

Guard Jeremy Pargo had 17 points and a Warriors season-best 15 assists, eight of which went to Jones. Two-way forward Chris Boucher narrowly missed his third straight double-double tonight with 9 points and 11 rebounds, while guard C.J. Wilcox, currently on assignment from the Portland Trail Blazers, had his fourth straight game with 10 points off the bench.

Oklahoma City's well-rounded scoring attack featured all five starters in double figures and nine players with at least six points. Guard Bryce Alford scored 21 points on 7-of-14 from the field, with all of his buckets coming from behind the arc. Fellow guard Daniel Hamilton had 17 points, 11 assists and 3 steals on a team-high 36 minutes of action.

The Warriors led by as many as seven points in the first quarter thanks to their 12-of-19 (63.2%) shooting from the field, but Blue center Michael Cobbins scored eight points in the period to tie the score at 27. Jones exploded in the second quarter for 14 points, his best scoring period of the season, as Pargo fed him with five assists and guard Damion Lee played off his interior presence to hit two three-pointers to give the team a five-point lead going into halftime.

The Blue stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 37-28 while shooting 60.9% from the field and 61.5% (8-of-13) from behind the arc. Santa Cruz tied the game mid-way through the fourth quarter at 94 with a Michael Gbinije three, but back-to-back layups by Rashawn Thomas and two crushing threes from Alford sealed the Sea Dubs fate.

The Warriors will return to Kaiser Permanente Arena on Sunday, March 4 for the 4th Annual Pajama Night to benefit Project Pajamas.
