SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Iowa Energy 129-119 Friday night.

Santa Cruz was led by Seth Curry, who scored a game-high 30 points. Joe Alexander logged a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Ognjen Kuzmic, currently on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, scored 15 points and pulled down 11 boards. Lance Goulbourne also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, while Nemanja Nedovic, also on assignment from Golden State, scored 17 points.

Iowa was paced by Glen Rice Jr., currently on assignment from the Washington Wizards, who scored 29 points. Othyus Jeffers scored 23 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, while Curtis Stinson dished out a game-high 13 assists. Austin Freeman scored 12 points off the bench.

The Energy raced out to a 12-point lead in the first quarter and, though Santa Cruz came within one point, Iowa built a 12-point lead in the second quarter. Santa Cruz again cut the deficit to just one point with 4:22 left in the half and entered the intermission trailing by two. The Warriors went ahead 89-88 on a Seth Curry jump shot with 2:59 left in the third quarter and never looked back, eventually leading by as much as 15 midway through the fourth. Iowa came within eight late in the contest, but it didn't prove enough and Santa Cruz won by 10.

Santa Cruz shot 57.3% from the field compared to Iowa's 41.7%. The Warriors won the battle of the boards (53-41) and scored more points in the paint (74-56). Iowa committed fewer turnovers (9-19), dished out more assists (27-20) and had more steals (9-7).

The Santa Cruz Warriors face the Iowa Energy on Saturday for the second game of a back-to-back. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. at Kaiser Permanente Arena, and every fan in attendance will receive a drawstring backpack courtesy of Santa Cruz Core Fitness + Rehab.
